Opening number:
All ksters come out to different pieces of music. Ryan Bradley was wearing a bright orange shirt, with fringes, which horrified my mom. Kimmie skated to something from Grease. Pang/Tong skated to 'SexyBack' which kinda amused me. A/P skated to "Total Eclipse of the Heart." B/A were wearing purple for the second year in a row which I assume is in honor of me cuz it's my favorite color.

Ryan skated first, did his Saturday Night Fever Exhibition. The crowd was pretty quiet - they were much more enthusiastic at Marshalls.

Alissa was next, skating to Anytime, Anywhere. I wanted to see Man of La Mancha again, but she didn't ask me.

I think Rudy was next. He did a new number.

Dan Hollander skated after Rudy, which my mom didn't understand, because their numbers were somewhat similar. He did superhero themed program, skating to 'Holding Out for a Hero' and 'Hero'.

Johnny skated next doing his new "All is Fair in Love" program. His speed and his final combo spin were amazing. He fell on a 3lz.

Surya did something fun, which was cool, because the last time I saw her, she did a GFB. She did a huge 3s.

P/T did something that I have no memory of. Mom said Pang was the skinniest skater she had ever seen.

B/A closed the first half with their new Justin Timberlake number. I enjoyed it. Their unison was much better than it was at Marshalls.

Hoola-hoop lady opened the second act.

Shae followed with a chair number to Libertango. I would die happy if I never heard this music again.

A/P went next with a cool number where he starts as a magician in the audience. He was right next to me for this part, so I was a bit . This was a very different program for them, but I liked it.

Kimmie went next, doing Angel. Mom noted how much she's improved. She has 'wings' on her arms now.

Evan did I Need You Tonight, but the white wrist bands have been replaced... with black ones.

I think the acrobats went next.

T/M did something that I enjoyed. It wasn't their usual ballad-type number.

Shizuka skated to a GFB with annoying vocals. Mom thought she was kinda boring.

Plush went next. He was fabulous. I'm always impressed when I see him live. I told mom that he wanted to come back to competition, and after this performance, she said that she could definitely see why.

Sasha closed with Hurt. This is one of my favorite programs of hers.

The closing number was to Bond music (at least it was supposed to be, but I don't think it actually was).

It was a very good show. My mom's favorite programs were B/A's and A/P's. She has excellent taste.

First of all I was a lot CLOSER to the ice than I imagined, the second row back (woo!), and just off center ice. Got there with plenty of time to settle in and scribble down some attempt to grasp my feelings (mostly terrible – “I’m grasping at straws” and “I am wandering the Paris Opera House. I have rediscovered the Elysian fields. Beginning to understand that everything I have felt as of yet is pure guesswork – I have been groping in the dark, an imperfect form of beauty, aware but not in understanding. Tonight will I understand or will the dream shatter? I don’t know but ah, I hope.) I was lucky enough to have a little girl sitting in front of me… = clear unobstructed view of the ice.

I have so many notes and impressions, but so this isn’t too long I’m going to stick with the Plush parts. (Afterwards my friend turned to me and said, “we saw EP and lived through it!” – I haven’t stopped smiling.)

I confess I kept checking the tunnel to see when he would come and missing bits of the opening ( not that I minded…). He ended up coming out right after B&A did their little bit, and they had a couple seconds of shared time in the spotlight. B&A were of course skating hand and hand, and he comes up and sticks out his like he’s expecting her to skate with him, but she left him standing with his hand out… and he gets this _hilarious_ look, “confused”, on his face. Ditched by the girl He did (I think) a 2X and 3T in the beginning, and some of that backwards footwork which I have to admit I like. In person he is so charismatic, he fills the whole ice, there’s no way I was looking away for even an instant. (Oh and the hair is awesome. Nuff said.) The instant he came out all I could think was “wow he is so FAST!”… I had heard it said before but it’s impossible to see on TV just how fast he is.

He ended up skating second to last, right after Arakawa in the order. When each skater bowed, I could look over to the left to see the tunnel entrance and who was getting ready in the dark. Of course Plush is impossible to mistake even with no lights on : I confess I was clapping for Arakawa but I wasn’t looking at her… >>

Of course when they announced him I took in a deep breath and yelled EVGENI!!! and the little girl sitting next to me jumped. : It’s kind of funny because I am really a quiet person, very reserved and held back, but I had to yell his name. He was wearing his new costume, black and silver, and from the first note I knew it was “Prisoner”. Wonderful emotion – the dejection, the tortured character – I think I forgot to breathe. Two very nice triple axels and it was in the opposite corner of the ice but like I said, I’m pretty sure it was a 4T. Vintage Plushy footwork, both circular and straight line, that earned applause from the audience, and me… electrifying. Fast upright spin at the end. My memory of it is so blurred into one. So close I could see the blue color in his eyes.

He came out in the latter part of the finale too, and this is what got me – I was laughing so hard. “Live and Let Die,” but when he came out he was SURROUNDED with every female cast member all in bright dresses with long fluffy scarves. He would skate around, turn to look back at them and grin, and they all flocked after him… it reminded me of the part in the 4th Harry Potter when all the girls were giggling and running after Krum… fangirls! I was laughing so hard, especially since he had gotten “rejected” by Tanith in the opener! There were a lot of little programs, gun-shooting and boxing and of course highlights of each skater… I only had eyes for Plush I confess.

Other people who impressed me were Kimmy, who did a very beautiful skate to the “arms of an angel” lyrics (though she popped a triple), and JWe – it was like a dream. That was all I wrote during intermission… like a dream (even though he fell on one jump). There were quite a few falls/step outs, but I remember that Evan and Plush both went clean. P&T, T&M, and A&P were all breathtaking as well.

Methinks I am going back next year… I can’t stop smiling. My friend and I were, literally, squeaking the whole time back on the metro… and I know we scared more than a few people in the caf back on campus… worth every penny!

Laughing
